Trump Orders New ‘Very Significant’ Sanctions on Iran
The decision was made against the backdrop of strikes on Saudi oil facilities
US President Donald Trump said Wednesday that he instructed Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin «significantly toughen sanctions» on Iran amid escalating tensions between Washington and Tehran.
He did not specify any details about the planned measures..
We will remind, last weekend, oil facilities in Saudi Arabia were attacked, for which some representatives of the American authorities blame Iran. Tehran denies these accusations.
Iranian-linked Yemeni Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for strikes.
Saudi Arabia says its oil industry, which has lost half of its capacity as a result of the blows, will be fully restored by the end of the month. Riyadh also promises to provide evidence of Iran’s involvement in the attacks.
White House and Treasury do not comment yet.
The already tense relations between the United States and Iran have escalated even more after Trump withdrew from the international nuclear agreement with Tehran, calling it not tough enough, and reinstated sanctions on Iran.
