TikTok Could Be Banned In US, Mike Pompeo Says | TODAY
Earlier in Congress, concerns were raised over the use of user data by a Chinese app
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the United States «are definitely looking into the possibility» banning Chinese social media apps including TikTok.
«I would not like to rush this question .., but we are exploring this possibility», – said Pompeo in an interview with Fox News.
US lawmakers have raised questions about TikTok’s use of user data, saying they are concerned that Chinese laws require domestic companies to «support and cooperate with intelligence efforts controlled by the CCP».
The TikTok short video maker and watch app is owned by China-based ByteDance. It was recently banned in India along with 58 other Chinese apps amid clashes at the border between India and China.
